Greet Minnen v Jessika Ponchet Head to Head

Ponchet leads 1-0, last beating Minnen in Angers Challenger in 2022.

Minnen in Solid Form

Greet Minnen is currently ranked World No. 120, but that ranking surely does not do full justice to her spectacular season. The 25-year-old Belgian is 36-9 at the moment in singles and 20-4 in doubles.

A significant number of those victories have come in low-tier events like the Challengers and ITF, which also explains why that momentum has not really moved her needle in the singles ranking.

Nonetheless, form is form and perhaps, that can help her go deep in Den Bosch this week.

Minnen won two ITF titles, was the runner-up in two more (the recent one being the Trnava Open) and was a finalist in the Saint-Malo Challenger. In the doubles, she won ITF AK Ladies Open and Trnava Indoor, and Saint-Malo Challenger.

Greet last played in the French Open, where she fell in the final qualifying round to Dayana Yastremska in three sets. She did, however, was a doubles quarterfinalist there with Anna Bondar.

As for her form on grass, it has been largely underwhelming through the years, with her best season being the 2019 one with 7-4.

Ponchet in a Similar Tide

France’s Jessika Ponchet is 26-12 at the moment, ranking just three places below Minnen at the 123rd spot. Her season, however, has suffered from a dearth of silverware.

Her only feat is the title run in ITF Macon in February. Since then, she has reached the semifinal a handful of times in other ITF events like Ricany, Zaragoza, and Calvi.

In upper-tier events, Ponchet’s best result was the quarterfinal stint in Saint-Malo Challenger. Her last stint was the French Open, where she fell to Nadia Podoroska in the opener.

All things considered, Jessika is on course to deliver a career-best singles and will probably end the year on a career-high. But will that help her navigate the draw in ‘s-Hertogenbosch this week? That is a tough call.

Minnen v Ponchet Prediction and Tip

Minnen should win this one, given her comparatively better season in 2023. That is, of course, not set on stone as Ponchet can very well surprise.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Minnen to win: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
