Their only previous meeting came in the qualifiers of the 2020 Linz Open and Martincova had won that in three sets.

Martincova Hasn’t Won a Main Draw Match Since March

It was at the Miami Open earlier this year that Martincova made it through the qualifiers and then defeated Tamara Korpatsch in the first round to win what was the last time she clinched a main draw victory.

Since then, the Czech has been in bit of a strife with five tournaments played on clay and no main draw wins at all.

While Martincova did make the final of an ITF tournament on clay, she failed to even qualify for the Madrid Open and lost her opener at a WTA 125 tournament in Saint-Malo.

Which is why, it would be a huge relief for her to shift surfaces, moving to grass on which she has had a good string of results in the past.

This includes a semifinal appearance at this very tournament last year and a third round showing at Wimbledon 2021. Can she get back to her winning ways now that she is up against a player ranked lower than her?

Burrage Coming off Solid Grass Court Season in 2022

Burrage’s career-best ranking is 106th, which points to her overall struggles at the highest level. This is despite her five title wins on the ITF circuit which have all come on hardcourt surfaces.

This isn’t to say that Burrage doesn’t like grass, having registered 10 wins on it from the 15 matches she played last season.

That included a semifinal appearance at the ITF Surbiton competition and then finishing a runner-up in Ilkley on the same circuit. She followed it up with a third round appearance at the Eastbourne International where she shocked Petra Martic and Paula Badosa in successive rounds.

What this points to is Burrage can hold her own on grass but will need some assistance from her opponent to send a few gifts her way as well.

Martincova v Burrage Prediction and Tip

Martincova is 10/13 to win this but we don’t think this will be as straightforward as that. Egged on by the home supporters, Burrage will put up a far greater fight and could see her take Martincova to the distance.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 10/11
  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/11
