Two previous meetings between these two have both come at the Challenger level and Moutet had won them both.

Moutet Hoping to Continue Easing Back into Top Level of Tennis

Moutet had been out of action because of fitness issues and only returned after over three months when he played at the Madrid Masters earlier this year.

He lost both his opening round matches in Madrid and Rome and then went on to win a couple of rounds on the Challenger circuit – again on clay. A first round loss at Lyon would have broken some of his regained confidence but Moutet did start off the French Open with a victory.

What Moutet would have also been proud of would have been his performance against Andrey Rublev in the second round where he managed to take a set off his much-fancied opponent.

Shifting to grass now, Moutet will know he has a task on his hands given his record on this surface. Over his career, which has seen him become a pro in 2016, Moutet has won a mere three matches on grass.

Can he add to that record as he faces the much-improved Karatsev?

A Much Better Season for Karatsev

After having made the semifinal of the Pune Open in what was his first ever tournament of the season, Karatsev did struggle to get going again for a while. That was till he made it through the qualifiers at the Madrid Masters and entered the semifinal of that tournament.

Wins over Botic van de Zandschulp, Alex de Minaur and Daniil Medvedev ensured he would climb up the rankings ladder again.

While he had to come through the qualifiers at the French Open, Karatsev overcame Alexei Popyrin to feature in the second round there as well.

Unfortunately for Karatsev, grass isn’t quite his most preferred surface. He has won just a couple of main draw matches on this surface in his career and lost in the qualifiers of a few of the rest.

Which is why, this could turn out to be a gruelling encounter with Karatsev starting out a favourite on paper but only just.

Moutet v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

Moutet will be the second favourite coming into this one but it’s not as if Karatsev is a runaway pick for us either despite his 4/6 odds. Expecting a three-setter.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
