Daniil Medvedev v Adrian Mannarino Head to Head

This is an interesting rivalry with five meetings between these two players and Mannarino actually leading 3-2. And if you are wondering if any of those results came on clay, no! Three of those matches were played on grass and Mannarino leads 2-1.

Medvedev Coming off Shock Open Exit at the French Open

That Medvedev started out a 1/17 favourite in his opener at the French Open against Thiago Seyboth Wild is a miracle in itself given the Russian’s previous ineptitude on clay. But there he was, having just won the Rome Masters and fans were actually talking of a deep run for Medvedev at Roland-Garros.

As it turned out, Medvedev was sent packing in the first round itself, leaving the bottom draw open.

What that also means is Medvedev now comes into the grass swing with a good two-week break under his belt which should have helped him recharge his batteries after the kind of season he has had.

The 2022 finalist in this tournament, Medvedev has already won five titles in 2023 – including the one in Rome – and while grass isn’t his most preferred surface, his overall form means he should start off as one of the pre-tournament favourites here.

Mannarino Edges Out Fils

While the match lasted just two sets, Mannarino did have to fight tooth and nail to get past fellow Frenchman Arthur Fils in his opener at this tournament.

Mannarino was on court for an hour and 41 minutes for his 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory as he endured 11 aces and saved all four of the break-points he faced to make it through.

After failing to break Fils in the first game of the opening set despite getting a break-point, Mannarino did not get another chance at his opponent’s serve till the last game of the match! And at 4-5 on Fils’ serve he immediately broke and clinched the victory.

He now enters the second round knowing he has done well in the past in this tournament but more vitally he has beaten Medvedev on grass. Might not be an easy job against the in-form Medvedev but he will give himself that chance.

Medvedev v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

Medvedev is coming off a two-week layoff and we expect that to be just perfect for him to get back to court, refreshed and recharged. Expecting a hard-fought but two-set win.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
