Boulter Breezes Past Dart

After falling in the quarterfinals in 2018 and 2021, Katie Boulter finally made it to her maiden Nottingham semifinal with a straight sets win over compatriot Harriet Dart on Friday.

Getting off to a fast start, Boulter raced to a 5-1 lead in the first set by breaking Dart twice in the first six games. Dart, however, pulled a break back but Boulter got a third break in the set to take a one-set-to-love lead.

In the second, Boulter broke in the sixth game to lead 4-2 and then built a 5-2 lead. But Dart wasn’t ready to go down easily. She saved four match points and drew level at 5-5. Boulter regrouped and broke again in the final game of the set to complete a 6-3, 7-5 victory.

Boulter has not dropped a set in the tournament. She beat Emily Appleton 6-3, 6-1 in the opener and then defeated Daria Snigur 7-5, 6-3 in the second round.

A semifinalist at the ITF Surbiton last week, Boulter improved her season record to 25-10 across levels. She also won the ITF Canberra this year and had made it to another ITF final in Japan.

Watson Knocks Out Golubic

Heather Watson continued her strong run in Nottingham as she ousted Viktorija Golubic in the quarterfinal on Friday.

Ranked no. 195 in the world, Watson had come into the main draw through the qualifying rounds, and has not dropped a set in the five matches hat she has played in the tournament so far.

Her latest win came over Golubic in a two hour and 19 minute contest, which saw Watson win 7-6 (7-2), 7-5.

Watson saved 6 of 7 break points in the match and converted 2 of 7 to march into her first semifinal in Nottingham in what is her seventh appearance.

Watson had qualified for the main draw with straight set wins over Sophie Chang and Amelia Rajecki. She remained in great form in the main draw as well, defeating Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round and Tatjana Maria 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.

Watson, who has finished runner-up twice at the ITF level this year, will be competing in her first semifinal at the tour level this season. She has won four tour level titles from five finals previously.

Boulter v Watson Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a cracking contest. Boulter has been very consistent at the ITF level this year and has looked good in her first three rounds. She also had a string showing in Surbiton. So she will hold a slight edge over the more experienced compatriot.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Boulter to win: 4/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
