Venus Williams is likely playing her final season on the tennis Tour though she didn’t confirm it. The American played earlier this year in Australia before picking up an injury that left her out of play until a few days ago. She made a return in Den Bosch playing a very good match against Celine Naef.
She won the first set and had a break in the second set being only a few games away from a win but ultimately the Swiss player managed to win in three sets. The problem for Williams wasn’t really tennis but rather fitness. She got too tired in the end to stay with the much younger Swiss player.
Her comeback Tour continues in Birmingham with a wild card though it seems unlikely that she’ll win this match. Giorgi plays very solid tennis with a lot of power so Williams will need to be alert. Winning this match would be impressive but I don’t see it happening even if Giorgi can beat herself.
Wimbledon might be the likeliest place where she might earn a win. It would be a huge deal so let’s see. Her last win on grass came in 2021 and it was at Wimbledon against Buzarnescu.

Giorgi Up and Down as Always
There are very few players that embody up-and-down tennis better than Giorgi. A fascinating player that is able to hit a crazy level, the Italian simply can’t find any form of consistency due to the overly risky way she plays. She needs to be near perfect to win the match and that simply doesn’t happen often.
She hits the ball really hard and goes for winners in most rallies. Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn’t. A sport where you win and lose points all the time, Giorgi fails to really manage that type of style against most of the best.
She’s only 15-11 this year after going 15-16 last year. Grass has been a great surface for her though with a 57-32 record all time. If she can overpower a player she’s likely to win. That’s the case in this matchup because Williams is not at her best right now.
It’s widely expected that Giorgi wins this match comfortably.

This match will be won by Giorgi unless the Italian plays herself out of the match. There is some value in pursuing the over but like any tip on this match. It all comes down to Giorgi.
