Sinner Makes a Slow Start on Grass

After getting knocked out of the French Open in the second round, Sinner featured in his first grass court competition of the season last week in Rosmalen. Unfortunately for him, things did not go as planned.

The Italian number one, who had a first round bye there, overcame Alexander Bublik in the second round easily but was put to the sword in the quarterfinals. He was soundly beaten by Emil Ruusuvuori in that encounter, losing 6-3, 6-4 to the Finnish player.

Sinner will now return here to try and get some of his lost rhythm back. Grass, however, isn’t one of his most preferred surfaces either, which makes things that much more challenging for him.

He did make the quarterfinal at Wimbledon last year but in the six other grass court competitions that he had played in his career before this season, he hadn’t won a match!

Can Sinner get past a tricky opponent who had only recently gotten the better of Stefanos Tsitsipas?

Stuttgart Quarterfinalist Gasquet Could Make Things Difficult

Every now and then this season, Gasquet has given a glimpse of his old self when he he had moved to seventh in the world. At the Auckland Open this season, for instance, the 37-year-old Gasquet went on to win the title.

In another competition he defeated Pablo Carreno Busta and then there have been the odd wins over players ranked around his top-50 ranking.

His second-best performance for the season came last week though.

On the grass courts of the Stuttgart Open, Gasquet quelled the Christopher Eubanks challenge in the first round before shocking Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round. It was one of his biggest wins of recent times, better than the one against Cameron Norrie when he won in Auckland.

Can Gasquet now add another top-10 scalp to his name here?

Sinner v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

Sinner should not have a lot of difficulties here despite Gasquet’s shock win over Tsitsipas and his own early exit. Expect the Italian number one to come through in two.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 8/13
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 4/5
