Bianca Andreescu v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

Marketa Vondrousova leads the series 1-0. She thumped Bianca Andreescu at this year’s Italian Open 6-0, 6-1 in a round two match.

It was far from a perfect start to the grass court swing for Bianca Andreescu who fell to an eyebrow-raising loss to Viktoria Hruncakova in straight sets at the Rosmalen Championships.

The result could have been totally different had Andreescu converted any of a whopping nine set points in the first set, which she ended up losing in a tiebreak. And despite taking a 2-0 lead in the second set, she would only win one more game in the match.

Andreescu will hope it’s a good omen, because last year, she started her grass campaign with an early loss in Berlin, but reached the final in Bad Homburg a couple of weeks later.

Adnreescu is now 12-11 for the season, with her best results coming on hard courts. She reached the semifinal in Hua Hin in February and the round of 16 in Miami, but sadly, she retired in both tournaments due to injury.

Having just celebrated her 23rd birthday this past week, Andreescu could reward herself with a late-birthday gift by beating Marketa Vondrousova on Tuesday.

Vondrousova Begins Grass Swing

Marketa Vondrousova hasn’t played since her second-round defeat to Daria Kasatkina at the French Open at the end of May.

Vondrousova has played a grand total of 31 matches in the first half of the season which is at least three more than during the entirety of 2022 in which she spent at least six months nursing a wrist injury between April and October.

Eventually, she returned to action in late October and won the W100 ITF title at the start of November in Shrewsbury. She has since translated that form to the new season.

Vondrousova has enjoyed a fine campaign in 2023, rising to 53rd in the world rankings, cutting her 2022 year-end ranking by almost half. She has reached the deep end of most tournaments she has entered and will hope to keep that momentum going on grass.

The Czech lefty hasn’t played on the lawns since 2021 when she lost in the second round of Wimbledon to Emma Raducanu. She has a 5-11 lifetime record on the surface.

Andreescu v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip

A player of Vondrousova’s abilities should have a better record than 5-11 on grass. The Czech has a sweet left hand and an incredible on-court IQ. Andreescu doesn’t seem to match up so well with the Czech’s sensational shotmaking. Expecting another tough afternoon for the Canadian.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Vondrousova to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Vondrousova to win in straight sets: 6/4
