Former Australian Open Mixed Doubles Finalist Fourlis

Last year Fourlis reached the final of the Mixed Doubles at her home Grand Slam with Jason Kubler, eventually settling for the runners-up cheque.

That was a rare moment in the limelight for the Australian, who is normally to be found on the ITF tour, where she has won five titles, all of them on hard courts.

She was a beaten finalist in a clay court tournament in Germany last month.

Last year she qualified for Wimbledon for the first time in her career, but promptly lost her first round match.

But she earned her chance against Wang after winning two matches in qualifying.

Fourlis beat Mara Guth of Germany easily enough in straight sets, but was made to work a lot harder to get the better of the world number 56, Peyton Stearns of the USA, and it took her three sets to progress.

French Open Doubles Champion Wang

Wang can now call herself a Grand Slam winner, having recently lifted the French Open doubles trophy, along with partner Hsieh Su-wei.

That helped her reach an all-time high doubles ranking, having earlier in the year done the same in singles.

Grass, though, is another challenge. Her only previous visit to Wimbledon two years ago ended in a first round defeat.

Nor did her new found status spare her in Berlin from having to enter the qualifying competition, although, in the event, it was something she took in her stride.

First, she brushed aside the challenge of the Australian Taylah Preston, beating her in straight sets for the loss of just three games.

Her next opponent is much better known, the American Coco Vandeweghe, but the result was the same, another straight sets victory.

Fourlis v Wang Prediction and Tip

Although neither is known for their prowess on grass, Wang will be playing with a good deal of confidence after what she did at the French Open, and how she performed in qualifying suggests she is ready to translate some of that form to grass.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Wang to win: 7/17
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 49/50
