Kasatkina Returns after French Open Fourth Round Ouster

A former quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, Kasatkina returns to grass with her first round match in Berlin against a player who has beaten her twice in her career.

That shouldn’t bog Kasatkina down too much given the kind of form that the Russian is in. She is ranked 11th in the world, just three away from her career-best ranking which she had achieved earlier this season.

Where Kasatkina has done well is shown consistency across almost all tournaments and very rarely gotten knocked out early in tournaments. On the other hand, she hasn’t made it count when she has started off well either.

Like she made the fourth round at French Open and could have done a lot better but for her surprise straight-set loss to Elina Svitolina at that stage of the competition.

Can she turn that around on grass this season?

Martic Stable for the Season

Having begun the season ranked 38th in the world, Martic soared to 27th at the end of February, fell to 41st in mid-March and has slowly begun her ascent back into the top 30 now. She hit the 30th-rank mark after reaching the second round at French Open.

Which brings us to her grass record and that’s something that reeks of consistency.

Martic might not have taken the world by storm on grass but she surely has pocketed some fine performances at Wimbledon. Thrice now, in 2017, 2019 and 2022, Martic has made the fourth round there and while she has never been a grass finalist, it just points to her capabilities on this surface.

Which is why Kasatkina would do well to not take things for granted here.

Kasatkina v Martic Prediction and Tip

While Kasatkina is a 1/2 favourite here, we could be looking at a solid Martic performance that surprises her opponent.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Games Handicap Martic +3.5: 5/6
