Shapovalov Shrugs off Slow Start against Harris

Lloyd Harris has been out of action for a while and winning has been difficult on his return as one would have predicted.

He did give Shapovalov a run for his money in the first set though before the Canadian player came away a winner in straight sets. Shapovalov was on court for an hour and 35 minutes in which he took his time to get going before winning 7-6 (1), 6-4.

This win follows an opening defeat at the hands of Marton Fucsovics in the first round of the Stuttgart Open last week, Shapovalov’s first tournament of the season on grass. He had gone into that match as a 4/5 favourite but stumbled to a three-set defeat despite winning the first set.

Featuring in his first ever edition of the Halle Open, Shapovalov will now hope he can make a distant run in this tournament as he looks to overcome his 1-4 win-loss record on grass last season.

Zverev Dumps Out Thiem

Returning to grass after missing out the entire season of it in 2022, Zverev began his campaign on a solid note with a straight-set drubbing of his old friend Dominic Thiem.

Zverev was on court for an hour and 20 minutes in the end, saved the only break-point he faced and carved out a 6-3, 6-4 win over Thiem.

After saving an early break-point in the match, Zverev broke Thiem in the sixth game and proceeded to lose just two more points off his own serve in the set.

While Thiem saved one break-point early in the second set, he could not find a way through his opponent’s defences on Zverev’s serve. At 4-4, Zverev then pounced a few weak Thiem serves, clinching the break off the fourth chance he got to earn himself a chance to serve it out.

He did that to love to march on and set up this meeting with Shapovalov.

Zverev v Shapovalov Prediction and Tip

Zverev will be a favourite to win this easily especially given how Shapovalov has struggled through most part of this season.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Zverev to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
