de Minaur Crushes Murray

Andy Murray looked to have started off his grass court campaign in fine fettle having done extremely well in the two Challenger tournaments he had played leading up to this opening round match at Queen’s.

Unfortunately for him, he came up against a determined de Minaur who ripped past the Scot, winning their first round match with utmost ease.

The world number 18 was on court for an hour and 26 minutes for his 6-3, 6-1 result that saw him break Murray four times in the encounter.

De Minaur, who had won and lost one match apiece in his first grass competition of the season in Rosmalen last week, was at his clinical best as he saved all the three break-points he faced. The key difference between the two players came in the way de Minaur attacked Murray’s second serve though.

While the Aussie won 67% of his own second serve points, he also allowed Murray to grab just seven of the 24 points that were on offer off the former Wimbledon winner’s second serves. A clueless Murray crashed out soon after that.

De Minaur will start off having a great chance of making it to the quarterfinal of this competition for the second time in his career.

Schwartzman Eases Past McDonald

In what turned out to be one of the biggest upsets of the first round, Schwartzman managed to not just win his opener against Mackenzie McDonald, he also did that in double quick time.

Schwartzman’s horrid run this season and his absolute disdain for grass as his overall record suggests meant he had entered this match at 11/4 odds to overcome McDonald. And he that in an hour and 16 minutes. The Argentine won 6-2, 6-4.

What was fascinating to watch was Schwatzman failed to serve even one ace in the encounter, endured seven of them from McDonald and yet managed to serve way better than his opponent.

He faced no break-points and more crucially he did better when he had the chance to break his opponent, getting past him on three occasions from the six opportunities he got.

While things won’t be as straightforward against de Minuar, Schwartzman will breathe slightly easier on the back of his 7-17 win-loss record for the season coming into this tournament.
