Aryna Sabalenka v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Sabalenka has won two of them. Kudermetova’s win came in this very tournament last season.

Vera Zvonareva has fallen off the rankings cliff having gone outside of the top 1200 and unfortunately for her, she was drawn to take on the world number two Sabalenka in her opener. And Sabalenka didn’t let that opportunity slip out of her grasp as she grabbed an easy opening win.

Sabalenka was a 6-3, 6-2 victor in a match that lasted a mere 68 minutes, facing no real trouble on either her serve or even on her opponent’s.

There were no breaks of the Sabalenka serve; in fact she did not even face a break-point while Zvonareva rarely had it easy on her own serve. She was broken once in the first set and two more times in the second to allow Sabalenka to race to the second round.

A semifinalist at the French Open before coming on to the grass swing, Sabalenka has never made it past the second round at this tournament. Can she now do that for the first time?

Kudermetova Continues to Enjoy Good Grass Form

She had made it to the final of the Rosmalen Open last week where Kudermetova went down fighting in a third set tie-breaker to fellow countrywoman Ekaterina Alexandrova.

That did not stop Kudermetova from plying her trade once again in the first round here to overcome Qinwen Zheng in an easy couple of sets to move into the second round.

Kudermetova needed an hour and 26 minutes thanks to some of the fight that was shown by Zheng but she came through in straight sets in the end, winning 6-4, 6-2. Saving all the five break-points that she faced, Kudermetova got the better of her opponent’s serve on three occasions.

Where she was definitely helped by Qinwen was the latter’s inability to get her first serves in – she made only 39% of those – and then lost 64% of the second serves as a result.

Things will change quickly for Kudermetova against Sabalenka but she does have something to look out for – her win over Sabalenka last year here. Can she make it two in two?

Sabalenka v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka has been such kind of form, it’s difficult to see her go down even if on grass. Expecting a win but a fighting one at that.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win: 3/10
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
