Veronika Kudermetova v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

The pair have played each other four times before, and the current head to head record is two wins apiece.

Kudermetova won both their matches in 2019, in Nürnberg, and in Wuhan.

More recently, though, Alexandrova got the better of her compatriot on the grass of Rosmalen, both last year and this, beating her in the 2023 final in three sets.

Kudermetova Knocks Out Top Seed Sabalenka

Although not known as a grass court player – her final appearance in Rosmalen was something of an outlier – Kudermetova was a beaten finalist at Wimbledon in doubles in 2021, the last time she was allowed to play there.

And she has already proved this week that what she did in the Netherlands was no fluke.

In the first round she saw off the challenge of Qinwen Zheng of China, beating the number 25 in straight sets.

And then she caused something of an upset by defeating the top seed, and world number two, Arnya Sabalenka.

Kudermetova made a storming start to the match, breaking the Belarussian twice in the first three games. She was able to control proceedings from there to ease to the first set.

An early break put Kudermetova on top in the second set, before Sabalenka finally came to life by breaking back. It eventually went to a tie-break, which Kudermetova dominated. She was faultless on serve, whilst Sabalenka dropped hers three times.

Alexandrova Ends Gauff’s Run

Alexandrova came into this tournament full of confidence, having successfully defended her title at Rosmalen last week, where she beat Kudermetova in the final.

And she looks like she has brought that form with her to Berlin, beginning with her first round opponent, Liudmila Samsonova, the world number 15, whom she beat in straight sets.

The number five seed, Coco Gauff, presented, at least on paper, a tough second round opponent.

But after the pair swapped breaks midway through the first set, the outcome of the set, and, as it transpired, the match, hinged on the ninth game.

Gauff, on her own serve, saved three break points, and three times held advantage. However, she was unable to clinch the game, and it was left to Alexandrova to convert a fourth break point.

It was effectively the end of the American’s resistance as she failed to win another game in the match, conceding the second set to love.

Kudermetova v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip

This is an almost instant repeat of their Rosmalen final.

Because Alexandrova won that, she will start favourite, but that match had been close, and it is likely to be the same again.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Alexandrova to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 19/20
