Back-to-Back Quarterfinals for Dart

For the second week in a row, lightning struck twice. Harriet Dart defeated Anhelina Kalinina, just like she did in Nottingham last week, to earn her spot in the quarterfinals in Birmingham.

The British No. 4 defeated compatriot Jodie Burrage in her opener and backed up that result with her second win over Kalinina in three sets.

Dart won the first set 6-3, after sprinting to a 3-0 lead and it was the kind of cushion she needed to bring the crowd to their feet. She went on to serve to love for a one-set lead.

Kalinina is a top-30 for a reason, and she quickly bounced back. Unlike last week when she lost in straight sets, she converted her first break point at the eighth attempt to take a 4-2 lead. A couple of games later, the match was at parity.

But the third set was a complete meltdown from the Ukranian star who only held once as Dart ran out of sight building a 5-0 lead before Kalinina was on the board. The home favorite served the match to love.

Potapova Beats McNally in Thriller

Anastasia Potapova sits on the cusp of a top-20 breakthrough and there is a good chance she’ll be inside it by this time next week.

Potapova reached the quarterfinals of a WTA event for the fifth time this season after she defeated Caty McNally 6-3 2-6 7-6 in two and a half hours.

The match featured 12 breaks, and a combined 12 double faults as both players struggled to hold consistently throughout the match.

The first two sets were mirror opposites. McNally won the first set 6-3, breaking Potapova’s serve three times. Potapova would soon level the match at one set all, establishing a 4-1 lead with three breaks of her own before wrapping up the set in the eighth game of the second set.

But it was McNally who looked on course to reach her first Tour-level quarterfinal since February when she broke for a 4-2 lead in the decider.

And she served for the match at 5-3, but was immediately broken back. Eventually, the match lasted until the tiebreak where Potapova did not commit a single error and sensationally clinched it 7-0.

Dart v Potapova Prediction and Tip

Dart is playing with Tinisitlis this week and it’s a minor miracle she’s managed to get this far given the tough draw she’s had. We fancy Potapova to finally put a dent in the Briton’s run.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Under 2.5 sets in the match: 8/15
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Potapova to win: 8/11
