World no. 12 Barbora Krejcikova stormed into her first grass court semifinal with a straight sets drubbing of fellow Czech Linda Fruhvirtova in the quarterfinals of the Birmingham Open on Friday.
Dominating the contest from the start to finish, Krejcikova dropped just seven points of her serve in the entire contest. She also won 46% (23 of 50) return points to roll past the world no. 57, 6-3, 6-2.
Another highlight: Krejcikova did not face a break point in the match, while she converted 3 of 5 to win the contest in an hour and 14 minutes.
The Czech, who has not dropped a set this week, had beaten another Czech in Terezza Martincova in the round of 16. She was broken just once in that match, while she beat Martincova 6-4, 6-4.
She had begun her campaign with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Spain’s Cristina Bucsa.
The 2021 French Open winner is a six-time champion on the tour, winning her most recent title in Dubai in February this year. On Saturday she will be aiming to reach a 10th singles final.

World no. 39 Zhu Lin of China also reached her first ever semifinal on grass, as she fought back from a set down to defeat Canada’s Rebecca Marino 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday.
Zhu had broken early in the first set to lead 1-2, but Marino came back with a double break to take a one-set-to-love lead. The 29-year-old Chinese however dominated the rest of the match, breaking the Canadian twice each in the next two sets to win the match in two hours and seven minutes.
Zhu, who won her maiden WTA title in Hua Hin this year, improved her season record to 17-10 following the quarterfinal win on Friday.
She had begun her Birmingham campaign with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Katie Boulter in the opening round and then knocked out third seed Magda Linette 6-3, 6-0 in round 2.
On Saturday, she will be hoping to reach her second WTA final.
Krejcikova v Zhu Prediction and Tip
Both players will be playing their first semifinal on grass. Krejcikova is the more experienced at this level and she has returned better results at Wimbledon, reaching the fourth round in 2021 and the third round last year. She has been in good form this year and is expected to reach her 10th final on Saturday.
