Canada’s Bianca Andreescu, currently ranked World No. 35, finds herself in a disappointing grass swing.
She is now 1-2, following a second-round exit in the Libema Open to the then 144th-ranked Viktoria Hruncakova and a first-round loss to Marketa Vondrousova in the German Open.
All in all, the 23-year-old is now 12-12 for the season, with her best run being the semifinal showing in WTA Hua Hin and a fourth-round stint in Miami. In both those matches, Andreescu retired mid-way into the game – indicating her injury troubles may not be fully over yet.
Her fitness concerns may also explain why she has not quite managed to perform at her best ability. Once a former world number four, Bianca won the 2019 US Open, Canadian Open, and Indian Wells Open.
That said, she was a runner-up in Bad Homburg last season, so perhaps, she can stage a resurgence again.

Kartal in Form
Great Britain’s Sonay Kartal, age 21, is the current World No. 303 and is coming off a pretty good spell on the tour. She is on course to deliver a career-best season; she was 31-11 in 2022 and, so far in 2023, is already 25-11.
Most recently, she was a semifinalist in Ilkley, where she fell at the hands of Emma Navarro.
Kartal has spent the majority of the season on the ITF circuit, where she reached a handful of semifinals and went the distance on one occasion in Santa Margherita Di Pula.
On the WTA side of things, Sonay still lacks experience; her most notable result came in the Nottingham Open, where she cleared the qualifiers but fell to Magdalena Frech in the opener.
Andreescu v Kartal Prediction and Tip
Andreescu starts as the odds-on favourite but it may not be a straightforward affair for her. She is vulnerable while Kartal has got a bit of momentum to her; at the very least, the home favourite is poised to put up a solid fight.
