Sherif Overcomes Friedsam

Mayar Sherif loves to play tennis on clay and it’s by far her best surface. The Egyptian hasn’t played too much on grass (3 matches) but won two of those. Her win over Friedsam certainly was quite impressive not only because it was against a German in Germany but also because Friedsam was kind of favoured in that match.

Sherif is an interesting fit on grass. Her tennis works best on clay but she has a good serve and is quite tall and not shy to really rush to the net. She doesn’t use it often but it’s certainly a good weapon to have. Her shots are certainly capable of doing damage as well.

This year has been a breakout year for her with a 24-14 record overall with a chance to break into the top 30. She’s currently ranked 31st and a good run on grass will get her there.

The win condition for her will be to serve well and minimize errors. Her opponent is prone to getting frustrated so she needs to remain calm on her serve.

Bronzetti Impresses Against Grabher

Lucia Bronzetti played on clay mostly though she can do well on hard courts as well. The Italian has a really clean baseline game though also one that can be prone to errors at times. She’s very streaky so when things work she generally plays a really good match and wins it.

If things don’t go well then it’s a bit different. She faced off against Julia Graber, a noted clay specialist and the lack of experience on grass was evident. Bronzetti herself hasn’t played much (6 matches) though she fits a bit better on it than Grabher.

Sherif presents a tricky one for her because the Egyptian can certainly send many balls back to Bronzetti which can cause her to overhit at times. The serve of the Egyptian will also be crucial as Bronzetti can return quite well. The Italian will simply need to outhit her opponent.

If she manages to do that from the baseline that she is likely to win.

Sherif v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip

This is a really tough one to call because they are close and either of them can win. Expect a close one but I’ll side with Sherif.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Sherif to win: 5/6
