Katerina Siniakova v Evgeniya Rodina Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2015 Indian Wells Open where Siniakova defeated Rodina in straight sets.

Siniakova Breaks Losing Streak in Opener

Siniakova had lost four successive matches in the lead-up to this first round match in Bad Homburg but a lot of that was also to do with her fitness concerns. As a result of that Siniakova had played in only one clay court encounter, having missed all the tennis between the Miami Open and the start of the French Open.

Coming into the grass swing at Berlin, Siniakova was routed in her opener by Cori Gauff, making it four defeats in a row.

In the first round here though, Siniakova finally found her rhythm and defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto to move into the round of 16. In a match lasting an hour and 34 minutes, Siniakova defeated her Italian opponent 6-3, 6-4.

An early break in the first set allowed Siniakova the lead but she was broken back in the seventh game by her opponent. Siniakova broke right back and then served it out soon after.

The second set saw Cocciaretto draw first blood with a break in the second game but Siniakova levelled things out in the very next game. Another one followed in the seventh game and while she frittered away three match-points off her opponent’s serve in the ninth game, she clinched the win off the fourth that she got.

Rodina Routs Volynets

Once ranked 67th in the world, Rodina has now fallen to 314th and it’s no surprise she had come into her opener here against Katie Volynets as a 7/5 underdog.

What was surprising wasn’t that she won – you can expect that at times when the two players have both not done too well – but the fact that Rodina managed to run away with the win. It was just an hour and 16 minutes of court-time for Rodina in which she defeated Volynets 6-4, 6-0 to register a rare main draw victory.

Rodina broke her opponent three times in a row in the first set to grab the lead, while facing no break-points.

In the second, there was a lot more fight from Volynets with the two trading breaks in six successive games. Rodina held on to her serve in the ninth game and then broke Volynets again in the 10th to clinch her place in round two.

Siniakova v Rodina Prediction and Tip

This could be a tough call with both having different issues to sort out. While Siniakova still starts a favourite we think it could go right down to the wire.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 8/15
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 4/5
