Spread across the ATP main draws, qualifiers and Challengers, these two have faced off four times and Rinderknech has won three of those.

Rinderknech Makes it Count against Ramos-Vinolas

It’s not been the best of the seasons for Rinderknech anyway but more so on grass where the Finnish player had not won a single main draw round before this.

And by the looks of it, he might have come into Wimbledon without doing that as he failed to qualify for the Mallorca Open as well, losing in the second qualifying round.

Making it through as a lucky loser, he got even luckier when he drew another equally out-of-sorts and clay-court specialist, Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round. Things did not get easy for Rinderknech though and while he needed a couple of sets in the end, both went into a tie-breaker.

In the end, Rinderknech was on court for nearly two hours as he scraped past Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 (0), 7-6 (3) to win his opener.

He failed to break the Ramos-Vinolas serve, which would be a bit of a concern coming into this second round.

Lestienne Shocks Kubler

Jason Kubler was a 7/20 favourite coming into his opening round encounter here against Lestienne but it was the Frenchman who made it through in three sets.

Lestienne, who was on a nine-match losing streak before the start of the grass swing, enjoyed a rare moment of celebration when he went past his Aussie opponent here 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to enter round two.

This was his first appearance in the second round of a competition since having done that at the Australian Open where he had lost to Cameron Norrie. He had never won again in a top-level ATP tournament till this two hour, nine minute long contest.

He lost his serve five times in the encounter but the good news for him was he got the better of Kubler’s serve on six occasions. Rather fascinatingly, both players won 69% of their first serve points and Kubler did better with his second serves – 46% to Lestienne’s 41%.

Can Lestienne convert this win into a momentum-altering run?

Rinderknech v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

Rinderknech, despite his poor form this season, holds a better chance of winning this one against an out of sorts player who hasn’t done much on grass. Backing him for a straight set win.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Rinderknech to win: 9/20
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Rinderknech to win in straight sets: 11/10
