Ostapenko Dumps Out Dart

Jelena Ostapenko is two wins away from making it a hat-trick of finals in Eastbourne. The Latvian had won the title by beating Annet Kontaveit in 2021 and then finished runner-up to Petra Kvitova last year.

This year, the 26-year-old began her campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Barbora Strycova in the first round and then she knocked out Harriet Dart in straight sets in the second round on Wednesday.

Ostapenko was not broken by the Briton as she saved all three of the break points that she faced, while she converted 2 of 6 break points to win the one hour and 31 minute contest 6-3, 6-4.

Wednesday’s win was Ostapenko’s seventh straight win on grass this year. She had come into the tournament having claimed the Birmingham title last week.

It will be interesting to see if the six-time tour-level champion can continue her unbeaten streak on grass.

Giorgi continued her dominance in the second set, winning the first two games. She broke one more time in the set to seal the one-hour-and-13-minute contest 6-3, 6-2.
