World no. 5 Caroline Garcia cruised past Ana Bogdan in the second round on Wednesday to reach her second straight grass court quarterfinal of the season.

Garcia, who is 27-13 in 2023, had lost in the last eight stage in Berlin last week.

The Frenchwoman had begin her Eastbourne campaign with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Madison Brengle in the first round. In round 2, she looked even more comfortable as she eased past the Romanian in an hour and 27 minutes.

Garcia was not broken by Bogdan, saving 4 of 4 break points. In contrast, the second seed had three chances to break Bogdan and she capitalised on two of those opportunities.

A two-time finalist this year, the 11-time tour-level champion will be aiming to reach her third semifinal of the season with a win on Thursday.

Kasatkina Rallies Past Pliskova

World no. 11 Daria Kasatkina bounced back after dropping the first set to beat the Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova in the second round on Wednesday.

The Russian failed to convert the only break point that she held in the first round, while her opponent held eight break points in the opening set and she capitalised on one of them to take the opening set.

Kasatkina made a comeback in the second set by getting the solitary break of the set. But she found herself 0-2 down in the final set as the Czech made a strong start.

However, Kasatkina pulled the break back immediately and then broke two more times to take the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Russian had beaten Anhelina Kalinina 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. These two wins are her first two wins on grass courts this season, after she lost her opening match in Berlin last week.

Kasatkina will be playing in the Eastbourne quarterfinal for the third time. She is yet to reach the semifinals though.

Overall, the Russian is 17-14 this season and the Adelaide-2 runner-up will look to reach her third semifinal in 2023.

This is going to be a close contest. Garcia holds slight edge though as she has displayed better form than Kastakina and the Russian has been a bit inconsistent this year.
