Zverev Back to Full Rhythm

Zverev might not have won an ATP title this year – yet anyway – but there are enough signs to suggest that he is back to his best.

Having returned to the circuit earlier this season after missing out the entire second half of the previous year’s tennis, Zverev has slowly but steadily grown in confidence.

A semifinal appearance in Dubai in February was the beginning of his return to rhythm but it was on clay that he finally earned himself the kind of consistency he would like. In four of the five tournaments that Zverev played on clay before the French Open he won successive matches before showing off his skills at the season’s second Grand Slam.

At the French Open, Zverev made it all the way through to the semifinal before losing in straight sets to Casper Ruud.

And now on grass, Zverev was a semifinalist at Halle as well, thereby signalling his intentions to go deep at Wimbledon. Can he start things off with a solid showing?

Brouwer Makes Wimbledon Debut

This is just the second season of his decade-long career in which Brouwer has played on grass. And for a while it did not seem like it was going his way.

It started with a qualifying defeat at the Surbiton Challenger, and that was followed by a first round defeat at the Rosmalen Open where Brouwer had earned a wildcard. He then turned his attention back to the Challenger circuit but again, Brouwer found no success in Ilkley.

Which is why when he entered the qualifiers at this year’s Wimbledon, not too many would have given him a chance to make it through to the main draw.

A straightforward opening win over Luca Pow was on expected lines but he then faced Jurij Rodionov, a 2/5 favourite coming into their encounter. A straight-set win followed.

As it did when the he faced off against the 3/5 favourite Otto Virtanen.

While Zverev would be a bridge too far to traverse for Brouwer, his performances so far would have pleased him no end.

Zverev v Brouwer Prediction and Tip

Zverev shouldn’t have a lot of trouble here and we can expect a straight-set win for the German.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 1/2
