Alexandrova Is 7-1 on Grass in 2023

Ekaterina Alexandrova has won just two main draw matches in her five previous appearances at Wimbledon and is yet to go past the second round.

But it is not just Wimbledon, the Russian has struggled in all the majors. Her best in a grand slam tournament is a third round finish, and she has reached that stage on six occasions, thrice at the Australian and thrice at the French Open.

All that could change at Wimbledon this year as the 28-year-old comes into the tournament in sensational form. Alexandrova is 7-1 on grass courts this year. She successfully defended her Rosmalen Open title by beating Veronika Kudermetova in the final and then reached the semifinals in Berlin, before falling to Petra Kvitova.

Overall, Alexandrova is 20-12 this season. She had an up and down run on hard and clay courts, but has found good rhythm on grass and she will be banking on this form to produce her best ever performance in a major.

Navarro In Excellent Form

Alexandrova’s first round opponent Emma Navarro too has displayed excellent grass court form this year.

The American, ranked no. 60th in the world, reached her maiden grass court final at the ITF Ilkley, only to finish runner-up to Mirjam Björklund.

It was her fifth ITF final of the season and she has 3-2 record in the finals this season. Navarro carried the Ilkley form to Bad Homburg and she won the first three rounds before falling to Katerina Siniakova in the semifinal.

It was her first ever grass court tournament on the tour and Navarro was quite impressive.

The 22-year-old is 36-13 across levels this season and will be looking to impress on her Wimbledon debut.

Alexandrova v Navarro Prediction and Tip

It’s a tricky start for Alexandrova, but given that she is more experience and also in top form at the moment, she should edge past the American.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Alexandrova to win: 2/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
