Lehecka Rises to Career High Ranking

Jiri Lehecka rose to a career-high ranking, World No. 36, but still fell short of a seeding spot at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

Lehecka rose to prominence at this year’s Australian Open where he reached a first Grand Slam quarterfinal.

The 21-year-old scored wins over the likes of Borna Coric, Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime in that storied run that ended in a straight-sets defeat to eventual runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Lehecka has since tallied a 21-15 record on Tour this season, reaching a quarterfinal on clay in Banja Luka and a first ATP semifinal on hard courts in Doha.

The Czech has performed modestly during the clay-court swing, finishing with a 5-5 record on his strongest surface. A second-round defeat to Marcos Giron at the French Open was a massive letdown from his breakthrough run Down Under.

Lehecka will seek to atone for that mishap at Wimbledon where he will make his second main draw appearance.

If Lehecka needed some motivation on how to excel on grass, then he’s got good company in Tomas Berdych, his coach, a former top-10 player who reached the 2010 Wimbledon final.

Second Wimbledon Main Draw for Ofner

It’s very rare to see a pro mark his ATP Tour debut at the grandest stage. But Ofner’s ATP main draw debut came at Wimbledon in 2017 when he qualified for the tournament and famously reached the third round.

Ofner registered wins over Thomaz Bellucci and Jack Sock (the top-ranked American male player at the time) before his fairytale story came to an end at the hands of Alexander Zverev.

The Austrian had a harsh introduction to life on the ATP Tour, as it took him the best part of five years before he appeared in the main draw of a grand slam again –  a losing effort in the first round of the 2022 French Open.

Ofner didn’t stop there. After painstakingly working his way through the ranks on the Challenger Tour, he broke the top 100 for the first time at the 2023 French Open, coming through qualifying and reaching the second week of a Major for the first time. Wins over Sebastian Korda and Fabio Fognini bolted his ranking into the top 100.

Ofner is currently the top-ranked Austrian, sitting over 21 spots above former World No. 3 Dominic Thiem.

Lehecka v Ofner Prediction and Tip

Lehecka has tested himself against the ATP’s best on grass in the build up, but it is Ofner who comes in with some serious form following his run to the final at the Ilkey Challenger. And the Austrian has plenty of fond memories to draw from his run to the third round here as an upstart. Fancying an upset in this one.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 3.5 sets in the match: 8/15
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Ofner to win: 5/4
