Dan Evans v Quentin Halys Head to Head

Evans and Halys have not met at Tour level, but on the lower circuits, they have played twice and head-to-head stands at 1-1.

Evans in Dire Form

Dan Evans is the 27th seed at the Championships, but his results in 2023 are a far cry from his surprisingly high seeding position.

If you take into account points accrued this season alone, Evans sits at 74th in the ATP Race, with a paltry eight wins from 25 matches.

If he doesn’t turn the tide any time soon, his win-loss record could expand negatively. The last time he had a winning percentage below 50 was back in 2019 when he re-entered the Top 100 mid-season.

But on a positive note, he doesn’t defend any points between now and the start of August.

So Evans could use this window of opportunity to chalk up valuable points ahead of a busy North American hard-court summer where he’ll need to perform at an elite level.

The 33-year-old has played in just two warm-up tournaments, outside the exhibition in Hurlingham. He was exceedingly well below par in his straight-sets defeat to Gabriel Diallo in Surbiton.

His performance at Queen’s was marginally better, but couldn’t stop Sebastian Korda from completing another straight sets victory.

Second Wimbledon for Halys

While it has been a first half of the season to forget for Dan Evans, it has been a memorable campaign for Quentin Halys, the towering Frenchman who has picked up 12 wins on the ATP tour – the most he has garnered in a single season.

Halys is ranked 76th in the rankings, but sits at 68th spot in the Race, ahead of Evans whom he will face on Monday.

It will be a real challenge for Halys to make the leap from clay-court tennis where he has played 16 matches since the start of April, and that included a run to his first ATP semifinal in Estoril.

Hayls has put together some solid results at Tour level as he continues to balance with life on the Challenger circuit where he has featured on a restricted schedule, but still clinched the first title of the season on red clay at the Blois Challenger last month.

The big-serving Frenchman will play in the Wimbledon main draw for just the second time in his career after last year’s debut ended in a second-round defeat to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Evans v Halys Prediction and Tip

Evans has been in dreadful form this season and he was probably one of the most wanted seeds any of the outsiders would relish facing. But on a bright note, his opponent was playing clay-court tennis for the past two months and only switched to grass in Hurlingham a couple of days ago. That will take some adjustment to do for Halys.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 33.5 games in the match: 3/10
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Evans to win: 4/5
