Collins Has Barely Played Any Tennis This Season

After having made a reasonable start to the tennis year, Collins’ season has gone awry to some extent. Since making it to the semifinal at the Austin Open in the early part of March this year, Collins has managed to play only six matches and the American has won just one match.

She also enters Wimbledon on the back of three successive defeats and more vitally without any grass court match at a competitive level.

The last time Collins played on grass was also at Wimbledon, last year, and in the only match she played there, the American lost to Marie Bouzkova in the opener. Her only win on grass since 2019 came at Wimbledon 2021 where she reached the second round by overcoming Polona Hercog.

Viktoria Golubic sent her packing in the second round 6-2, 6-0. Can she now turn things around at this year’s Wimbledon?

Grabher’s Not Had Too Much Grass Success

Grabher has had most of her success on clay but even more importantly she has struggled to get going on grass. Forget winning too many matches, Grabher’s played in just four matches on grass in her career and has one win to her name.

Compare that with her overall win-loss record across surfaces and circuits, with Grabher having played more than 550 matches in her career already, it sounds like the Austrian player doesn’t enjoy playing here.

And this has reflected in Grabher’s record at Wimbledon as well where she had never qualified for the main draw before this. It was her entry into the top 100 rankings late last year and top 60 earlier this year that has allowed Grabher to make it to this tournament without needing to go via the qualifiers route.

Unfortunately for Grabher, with no wins on grass this year – she lost her opener at the Bad Homburg Open to Lucia Bronzetti – the Austrian enters this match as a distant second favourite.

Collins v Grabher Prediction and Tip

Collins might have had her issues but she will be a huge favourite coming up against a player who has barely played on grass. Going for a Collins win in two.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Collins to win in straight sets: 5/6
