Kasatkina Made Eastbourne Final

In an attempt to get more grass court practice under her belt in the lead-up to this year’s Wimbledon, Kasatkina was forced to feature in the Eastbourne International in the week leading up to the tournament.

This was after the Russian was sent packing in the very first round of the Berlin Open by Elina Avanesyan.

And she did what she would have liked to in the first place. Not only did Kasatkina reach the final of the Eastbourne competition she also did that at the expense of Anhelina Kalinina, Karolina Pliskova, Caroline Garcia and Camila Giorgi, before Madison Keys got her number.

That should be enough to give the world number 11 enough confidence coming into this first round match at the season’s third Grand Slam.

What would be interesting to note is if Kasatkina can ride through to the later stages of this tournament and in turn get close to her career-best ranking of number eight yet again.

Dolehide Struggling on Grass

Dolehide has never been ranked better than 99th in the world but she enters this tournament at 100th, which is not too far from her best either. What makes this even better is she was 206th on the WTA charts at the end of February but four months on Dolehide has broken into the top 100.

That has been down to her performance on the hardcourts of Monterrey where she made the quarterfinals and the two titles she won on the ITF circuit on clay.

Unfortunately for Dolehide, grass isn’t quite up her alley. Even at the ITF level over the years, she has had struggles to qualify for such tournaments and you add what happened in the lead-up to this year’s Wimbledon to the mix and you know things could get bad for her in this opener.

Dolehide attempted to make the main draw of two grass-court competitions – at Birmingham and Eastbourne – and at both of them, she was dumped out in the very first qualifier she played in.

She might not have too many chances against Kasatkina.

Kasatkina v Dolehide Prediction and Tip

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Kasatkina to win in straight sets: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: 3+ Aces by Kasatkina in the match: 5/6
