Badosa Battling Injury Woes

2023 has been an injury-stricken year for Paula Badosa. The former #2 has fallen to the 35th spot in the singles ranking on account of a lack of results.

In January, she was sidelined due to an abductor injury, while just in May, a stress fracture saw her miss the French Open and grass tournaments. In all likelihood, Badosa may not be at her 100% physically and is quite likely risking exacerbating her injuries by competing in Wimbledon.

When she was active, Paula made it to the quarterfinal in the Rome Open, WTA Charleston, WTA Stuttgart, and the semis in Adelaide 2. Her record stands at a respectable 17-8.

At the SW19, Badosa has reached the fourth round consecutively. Of course, that was when she was physically fit and in form – this time, she had no practice and health to worry about.

Riske-Amritraj in a Rut

If there was a time for Alison Riske-Amritraj to turn her fortunes around, this would be it.

The American is coming on the heels of an extremely disappointing spell – possibly one of the worst starts in her professional career. She has won just one match while losing 10 – nine of them consecutively. Her last singles win of any kind this year came back in Adelaide 2 in the qualifiers.

As a result, Alison is now ranked World No. 141.

In her last two tournaments – ITF Surbiton and the Libema Open – she fell in the opening rounds to Viktorija Golubic and Veronika Kudermetova.

In Wimbledon, she is a one-time quarterfinalist – which is also her best Grand Slam result.

Badosa v Riske-Amritraj Prediction and Tip

This should be interesting. Both players are coming off a serious rut – for their own reasons. In many ways, the two could not have asked for a better opening tie as it puts them on even footing to some extent.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 2/1
