Blinkova Enjoying a Good Season

Anna Blinkova is having a wonderful spell in 2023. She has moved up to the 40th place in the singles ranking, which is a career-high for the Russian.

Although she has no titles (yet), she has bagged 22 wins while losing 17 matches. What is worth noting here is she has participated in many tour-level events to gain exposure and experience.

Blinkova’s notable results include a semifinal feat in WTA Hobart (as a qualifier) and later competing in the title match of Strasbourg International (her second WTA singles final). That said, between the two tournaments, Anna did go through a slump where she failed to win successive main-draw matches.

The 24-year-old last played in Bad Homburg, where she reached the quarterfinal before losing to Iga Swiatek.

Wickmayer Fielding Momentum

33-year-old Belgian Yanina Wickmayer is coming off an action-packed tour.

Her record stands at 36-11 – which includes her three qualifying wins at Wimbledon over the weekend. She met some experienced opponents in, Arianne Hartono, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, and Laura Siegemund and won, losing just two sets in total.

Wickmayer has done well on the ITF Tour in 2023, having picked up three titles and one runner-up silverware. Most recently, she won the Surbiton Trophy and later made it to the final eight in Gaiba 125. With a record of 10-1 on grass, it is hard to imagine her losing the opener in Wimbledon. Despite these results, she is ranked #112.

Speaking of, Yanina’s form at SW19 leaves much to be desired. She has been competing here since 2008 and has gone as far as round four – just once in 2011.

As a doubles player, she was the champion in Surbiton and a semifinalist in Gaiba and Libema Open.

Wickmayer v Blinkova Prediction and Tip

Wickmayer has plenty of momentum and experience, all of which should translate into a good opening. That said, Blinkova has shown plenty of promise this season, and she is not to be underestimated. Expect an entertaining match.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Wickmayer to win:1/1
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
