Wang in Decent Form

Xiyu Wang, current World No. 65, has had a decent grass campaign ahead of Wimbledon 2023. She is 5-3 across three tournaments – which should give her some experience and exposure to the traditional courts.

Her best result came in Eastbourne, where she made it to round two as a qualifier, posting decent wins over Linda Fruhvirtova and Rebecca Marino.

Wang has bagged 13 wins this year while losing 14. It has been a mediocre year for the Chinese player, whose best performance came in Rome in the form of a fourth-round showing. On hard courts, she never moved past round two.

To add to this, four of her last six Grand Slam main-draw campaigns were halted in round one itself – the recent ones being in Melbourne and Paris this year.

Andreeva, Ready to Impress

Mirra Andreeva may be just 16 years old, but she is already making a name for herself.

The Russian is coming off a spectacular season that has seen her win 25 professional matches while losing just three. She has been doing all of this since April when she joined the 2023 season.

Her highlights include two ITF titles, a fourth-round showing in Madrid, and a round-three stint in the French Open (as a qualifier). In these events, the teenager did a splendid job of beating some well-established names like Alison Riske-Amritraj, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Magda Linette, and Leylah Fernandez.

What is more impressive is Andreeva has never played on grass before. Just in her debut last weekend, she successfully cleared the qualifiers – dropping just one set. She defeated Rosa Mas, Chloe Paquet, and Tamara Korpatsch.

Andreeva v Wang Prediction and Tip

Andreeva is ranked World No. 102 right now but do not let that fool you. Her form, skills, and momentum tell an entirely different story. She should beat Wang with relative ease and march into round two comfortably.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Andreeva to win: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
