Pera Breaks Top 30

Bernarda Pera has broken the WTA’s top 30 for the first time in her career after advancing into the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time at this year’s French Open.

Pera scored wins over Kontaveit, Vekic, and Elisabetta Cocciaretto to make the fourth round, where her run came to a quick and painless halt at the hands of Ons Jabeur.

But Pera left the French capital with a new career-high ranking of No. 27. Prior to the week in Paris, she reached her second quarterfinal of the season in Strasbourg.

The American’s 9-7 record on clay is still a long way off from her sensational 21-7 record in 2022 in which she won two titles.

Pera has played in two grass-court tournaments leading up to Wimbledon. She made the round of 16 in Birmingham where she lost to Linda Fruhvirtova, while in Eastbourne, she lost to Coco Gauff at the first hurdle.

Pera’s top 30 status means that she will be seeded in a grand slam main draw for the first time and will look to pick up a maiden win at Wimbledon on the fifth attempt on Tuesday.

Tomova Enters Third Wimbledon Main Draw

Viktoriya Tomova has a peculiar record at Wimbledon. In the two main draw appearances, she won her first round, in 2018 and 2022 respectively.

While in three other instances, she lost in the qualifying. Going by that metric, Tomova will fancy her chances of winning her opening match at the Championships and causing a minor shock in taking out the 27th seed.

The Bulgarian has not won a main draw match in a slam outside Wimbledon, losing at least twice in each of the other three majors.

Tomova has only three main draw wins on the WTA Tour in 2023 and losing 13 times. She entered this year’s Wimbledon courtesy of a top-100 ranking but sits at No. 107 in the live rankings.

The Bulgarian, 28, comes to SW19 without any momentum whatsoever, losing in four of her five grass-court matches in her last three events combined.

Pera v Tomova Prediction and Tip

Bernarda Pera is not fond of grass but at the same time, her opponent has one of the worst win-loss records in the top 100. We expect the 27th seed to survive just.
