Maximilian Marterer had to play the qualifiers in order to book a spot in the main draw of Wimbledon and it proved worth it. After surviving a 5-set thriller in the final stages of the qualifiers, Marterer took advantage of his chance beating Borna Gojo in four sets to advance to the next round.
It was a rather solid performance from the German who had a solid year overall but far from what he’s capable of. He’s had some good runs and this one is certainly one of those. The win over Gojo was just a really strong performance from the German.
He had 17 aces and 53 winners which was a step above Gojo who was pretty decent but couldn’t do much more. Such a level from Marterer can prove quite difficult to handle. His next opponent defends really well so that shot-making ability will ned to come back if he wants to win.
He has a pretty good shot.

Mmoh Sensationally Beats Auger-Aliassime
While Felix Auger-Aliassime did lose in the first round last year this is still a sensational upset. The Canadian hasn’t played much and dealt with injuries but this was a matchup that many expected him to win in any case. Mmoh did really well to navigate a few tricky situations to emerge on top.
He’s actually a lucky loser as he lost in the qualifiers to Lauren Lokoli only to win this match. Auger helped him greatly with a lot of errors, far more than Mmoh had.
The American was pretty balanced in his approach, didn’t really try to do too much and waited for his chance. Auger obliged with too many errors as he basically threw away multiple great chances to win the match. It’s just a great result for Mmoh after some lacklustre showings lately.
A good run here could push him inside the top 100 and that’s what he’ll be aiming for. A similar approach to what he showed against Auger could do the trick once more.
Marterer v Mmoh Prediction and Tip
This one is really tricky to predict as both could win. Marterer will try to win the match on his own terms and if he plays well he might just do it. I’ll opt to back at least 4 sets to happen.
