Alcaraz Has No Trouble against Chardy

Having come into this year’s Wimbledon on the back of his maiden grass court title which came at the Queen’s Club Championships, Alcaraz did not have too many worries adding to his collection of wins as he eased past Jeremy Chardy in his opener.

Sure, Chardy did show a few glimpses of sparkle in the third set but once Alcaraz had found his rhythm again there was no looking back.

In a match that lasted a mere hour and 55 minutes, Alcaraz registered a 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 win over his French opponent to move into the second round. Alcaraz hit a whopping 38 winners as against Chardy’s 14 while the unforced errors count was reversed – 14 to 36.

With six wins in a row coming on grass for Alcaraz, he would have grown to the kind of confidence that would be difficult to overcome. Will he find any resistance from his opponent in this one?

Muller Overturns Odds, Overcomes Rinderknech

He was a 31/10 underdog coming into his opening round match against Arthur Rindernech but Muller was able to overcome those odds and claim his first ever win at Wimbledon in his maiden main draw appearance at this tournament.

The world number 84 needed two hours and 38 minutes but he came through in the end, registering a fighting 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over his more established opponent.

What separated the two players in the end was Muller’s ability to raise his game under pressure. He saved 13 of the 18 break-points he faced, and while both players earned five breaks of serves apiece, it was the single break of serve in each of the third and fourth sets that earned Muller the win.

What’s interesting to note is that Muller’s usually very focussed on clay court tennis having featured in two such tournaments on the Challenger circuit in June itself. For him to come away with a win of this nature would be a huge morale-booster.

That shouldn’t be much of a factor against Alcaraz but it would hold him in a good stead in the times to come.

Alcaraz v Muller Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz should have no worries here, winning in straight sets yet again in a manner not so differently from what he did in his opener.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 29.5 games in the match: 5/6
