Rybakina Eases Past Cornet

After having fallen behind in her first round match against Shelby Rogers before winning it in three, Rybakina made a far better start in the second round before winning in straight sets.

Alize Cornet did put up a fight in the second set of their meeting but the class of Rybakina was there for all to see as she romped to a 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory.

In a match lasting an hour and 44 minutes, Rybakina faced six break-points but saved each of them. What was interesting to note was that while all of those came in the second set against her she was unable to find a single breaking opportunity in the set.

That took the set to a tie-breaker where Rybakina had no difficulty in sending Cornet back.

The defending champion will be glad to have made it two in two but will know she might have to do a lot better as the competition increases. Against the in-form Boulter could come her first test.

Boulter Ends Tomova’s Campaign

She has been around in competitive tennis for around a decade but Boulter’s career-best ranking of 77th in the world suggests she hasn’t had a lot of success come her way.

This year, however, seems to be different.

For one, Boulter has already won her maiden WTA title which came on the grass courts of the Nottingham Open.

And now, here in Wimbledon, Boulter has already defeated Daria Saville and Viktoriya Tomova to reach the third round, her best ever Grand Slam performance, matching her Wimbledon showing from the previous season.

What makes it even better is this time around she would be awarded ranking points for that unlike the previous year and that could take her ranking close to her career-best again.

Which brings us to the question – can she use her own form and a slight under-par showing from Rybakina to her advantage here?

Rybakina v Boulter Prediction and Tip

Will we see an upset here? While Boulter can spring a surprise we think Rybakina might just scrape through to a win.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Boulter to win a set: 6/5
