Pegula Eases Past Bucsa

After missing out on match-points in the second set of her opening round match against Lauren Davis before she won in three sets, Pegula would have heaved a sigh of relief as she clinched her place in the third round with an easy victory.

Pegula was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Cristina Bucsa in a mere 65 minutes but what would worry the American a tad is her own serving issues.

Much like what was the case in the opening round, Pegula lost her serve yet again. And it happened in the second set too as she got closer to the win, getting broken twice on the way.

Grass isn’t quite Pegula’s most preferred surface either but the good news for the world number four is her opponent is no better on this surface. Which is why, a maiden fourth round spot at Wimbledon looks like a great chance.

Cocciaretto Overcomes Odds Yet Again

After losing in the only match she played on grass this season, Cocciaretto had entered this year’s Wimbledon at 9/5 odds to overcome Camila Osorio in her opener.

She did that in straight sets to set up a meeting with Rebeka Masarova who was a 4/6 favourite in the second round. And again, Cocciaretto did not waste too much in getting past Masarova, defeating her 6-3, 6-1 in an hour and 11 minutes.

The 43rd-ranked Cocciaretto grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first set and while she lost her serve in the eighth game, the Italian came back to break Masarova yet again to seal the win.

In the second, Cocciaretto went 3-0 up, saved three break-points in the fifth game before breaking her opponent again in the sixth to take full control of the encounter.

Can she stand up to the might of Pegula?
