Aryna Sabalenka v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

The pair have played each five times before, and Alexandrova leads their head to head series by three matches to two.

Their first two matches were in Shenzhen, Alexandrova winning in 2017, and Sabalenka in 2019.

Later that same year, Sabalenka won in St. Petersburg as well, but Alexandrova was victorious in their last two matches, in Moscow in 2021, and perhaps significantly, on the grass of Rosmalen last year.

Sabalenka Remains On Track

Sabalenka’s campaign to win what would be her second Grand Slam of the year began well enough, with a decisive straight sets win over Panna Udvardy of Hungary.

However, she was made to work a lot harder by the recently naturalised French player, Varvara Gracheva, in her next match, dropping the first set for the gain of just two games, before rallying to take the next two,

She was glad, therefore, to resume normal service as far as she was concerned with her third round match against the world number 40, Anna Blinkova.

It was Sabalenka who struck the first blow with an early break, She had break point opportunities to extend her lead, and temporarily was left annoyed with herself for not taking them, when Blinkova broke back.

Alexandrova Dominates Hungarian

Alexandrova had faced two Americans in the opening rounds of the Championship who she beat in two very different ways.

Her first round victory over Emma Navarro was a routine straight sets win, but she was then pushed to the brink by Madison Brengle, in a match that was only decided via a third set tie-break.

She was hoping for a more compliant opponent in the third round, and she duly got it, in the shape of the Hungarian, Dalma Galfi, the world number 126.

The first set was totally one-sided, Alexandrova winning it to love, and dropping just two points on her own serve in its entirety, which only lasted 23 minutes.

The Hungarian did improve in the second set – she had to – but again she could barely lay a glove on Alexandrova, and one more break was enough for her to wrap up the match.

Sabalenka v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka has had her problems with Alexandrova in the past, and lost their previous meeting on grass.

But, if she wants to win this Championship, this is just the sort of tricky opponent that she needs to overcome.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5
