Marco Cecchinato v Pavel Kotov Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, by coincidence in the same event, the San Marino Challenger, a clay court event. Cecchinato won in straight sets in 2021, but it was Kotov who was the victor after three a year later.

Cecchinato Enduring a Slump

Cecchinato has appeared in five senior ATP finals, all of them on clay, winning three of them, with his most recent success coming in Argentina four years ago.

Since then his greatest successes have been on the Challenger tour, again exclusively in clay court events, two of which he won last October.

The highlight of his season so far was in Estoril, where he reached the semi-finals, before eventually losing in straight sets to Miomir Kecmanovic.

However, since reaching the second round in Geneva, he has endured a mini slump, and has not won a match since, with that run including first round defeats at the French Open and Wimbledon.

He was last in action back on clay in a Challenger event in Germany, where he suffered yet another defeat, beaten by a player ranked 251st in the world.

Kotov Plays Two Qualifying Matches in One Day

Although he made his main ATP debut in 2020, it would take Kotov two years before he won a match at that level.

2022 also saw him make his Grand Slam debut at the French Open, a feat he emulated in New York, and, in addition, he won two Challenger titles.

Further progress has been made this year. Kotov made his Masters debut in Miami, and reached his first senior semi-final in Morocco.

He is in good recent form, having just reached the final of a Challenger event in Germany, but his powers of recovery were tested in Bastad, by being made to play two qualifying matches in the same day.

First he beat the Swede Max Dahlin in straight sets, and then, in his match with Enzo Couacaud of France, he overcame the setback of losing the second set, to book his place against Cecchinato.

Cecchinato v Kotov Prediction and Tip

With little to separate them in terms of world ranking, and an identical head to head record, there is very little to separate these two. Form though, suggests that Kotov may be considered the slight favourite, given that Cecchinato is struggling at the moment.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Kotov to win: 7/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/4
