Kecmanovic Still Chasing Second ATP Title

Kecmanovic’s quest for a second ATP title to add to the one that he won in Kitzbuhel in 2020 continues. He has been in two finals this year and lost them both.

In February he lost in three sets to Taylor Fritz in Delray Beach, and then to the Norwegian, Casper Ruud in Estoril.

Results since then have been mixed, although Kecmanovic did reach the last eight in both Banja Luca and Eastbourne.

However, his stay at Wimbledon lasted only as long as it took Diego Schwartzman to inflict a three set first round defeat on him.

The Serb received a first round bye in Gstaad.

Stricker Edges Out Frenchman

Stricker has good memories of this tournament from two years ago, winning his first senior title in the doubles with partner and compatriot Marc-Andrea Huesler.

And, having won two titles already this year on the Challenger tour – one on hard courts in February, and the other on clay in May – he began his singles challenge this time in reasonable form.

His first round opponent, Arthur Fils, the world number 58, was a tricky opponent on paper, and so it proved in reality, in what was a match of fine margins.

That was illustrated in the first set which saw both men create break points without any of them being converted, Stricker edging the subsequent tie-break.

Stricker then dropped his serve at the second set and, consolidating his lead, Fils had the chance to serve for the set.

But he allowed the Swiss to break back and eventually it went to another tie-break.

Both had problems holding their serve, but, when a match point came Stricker’s way, he gratefully made it count.

Kecmanovic v Stricker Prediction and Tip

Whilst Stricker will enjoy the benefit of playing in home conditions, Kecmanovic is the higher ranked player and the seed, and, if he wants to achieve his ambition of winning another ATP title, this is the sort of match that he needs to win without undue alarm.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Kecmanovic to win: 7/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/4
