Lorenzo Musetti v Matteo Arnaldi Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both times on clay, with Musetti winning on each occasion.

His first victory was on the Challenger tour four years ago in Italy, and the second, again on Italian soil, this time at the Rome Masters, was two months ago.

Arnaldi has yet to take a set off his compatriot.

Musetti in Good Clay Court Form This Year

Musetti is looking to build on the achievements of last year, when he won his first two ATP titles, in Hamburg and again in Naples.

Whilst he may not have reached such heights yet, he had a good first part of the clay course season, reaching the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo, and the fourth round in Rome.

And he carried some of that form into the French Open where he reached the fourth round for the second time in three years.

Nor did he let himself down on grass, reaching the quarter-finals at Queen’s and the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.

Given a bye in the first round in Sweden, this will be his first match since losing in straight sets to Hubert Hurkasz at the All England Club.

Arnaldi Bests Finn in Three Setter

The winner of three Challenger titles this year already, two of them on clay, Arnaldi arrived in Sweden in good form.

And he needed all and more to beat the Finn Emil Ruusuvouri in what developed into a major first round battle.

The Italian had the better of the first set, and, he had already seen several break points saved, before he achieved the decisive break which enabled him to lead the contest.

However, when two successive breaks enabled Ruusuvouri to claim the second set, the momentum appeared to have shifted in favour of the Finn.

Arnaldi cleared his head and began the third set with renewed purpose, breaking Ruusuvouri in the first game, only to be pegged back again.

The Italian did create further break points but could not take them, and the match was decided by a tie-break.

That proved to be out of character with the rest of the match, as the Finn failed to win a single point.

Musetti v Arnaldi Prediction and Tip

Given that Musetti has won both matches between these two without dropping a set, he will begin the clear favourite to make it three out of three.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Musetti to win: 5/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 23.5 games in the match: 5/6
