Paul Gets Opening Bye

As a top-seeded player featuring in the draw, Paul had a first round bye and now faces an opponent who has never been ranked in the top 400 in his career. That by itself should give him a bit of a breathing room as Paul looks to get back to the court following his first week ouster at Wimbledon.

Ranked at his own career-best of 14th in the world, Paul would have liked to do a lot better than his third round exit at Wimbledon especially after he had started off the grass swing well.

Paul was a finalist at Eastbourne and should have probably doubled his ATP tally count but went down to Francisco Cerundolo in that final. He followed that up with victories over Shintaro Mochizuki and Milos Raonic at Wimbledon but then lost to Jiri Lehecka in a hard-fought five-setter.

He will know he has another good chance of claiming a title given the kind of draw on offer and his own form on grass. Can he start off in a convincing fashion here?

Quinn Avenges Mukund Loss

Only two weeks ago, in a Challenger competition in Chicago, Quinn had faced India’s Sasikumar Mukund. In a rather well-fought encounter, Mukund had edged out Quinn, winning a third set tie-breaker to make the second round.

This time around, it was Quinn who scored a win over Mukund, defeating the qualifier in straight sets to record his maiden ATP main draw victory of his career.

Quinn needed just an hour for his 6-3, 6-1 rout of the 356th-ranked Mukund in the first round as he saved all the three break-points he faced in the encounter. On the other hand, he earned five break-point opportunities and converted four of them.

Having claimed the 2023 NCAA Singles Championship title while playing for the Georgia Bulldogs earlier this year, Quinn had become a professional only a few weeks after that. His serve is a deadly weapon and that could be something to watch out in this encounter.

Paul v Quinn Prediction and Tip

While Paul’s a huge favourite and understandably so, we think he could be tested and we could see a slightly longer match than the odds of 1/16 represent.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
