Roger Federer v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head

The players have met twice on the ATP circuit – both times in 2018. They had a close encounter at the Shanghai Masters which Federer won in three sets. Their second meeting at Basel was a more convincing straight set win for the Swiss.

Federer Hoping to Continue Strong Showing

After a scratchy opening match against Radu Albot, Roger Federer was in convincing form in his third round match against Fillip Krajinovic. Federer won in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to make it through to the fourth round.

The Federer return game that has looked below par in the last couple matches, slowly looked to be getting back to a good level against Krajinovic but what would be key is consistency around that going into these later stages of the tournament.

Federer is a three-time Miami Open winner, looking for a deep run this week with his sight on a potential fourth title but up against him is a player who possesses a game to test him.

Medvedev Looking for Deep Masters Run

Daniil Medvedev has been in consistently good form in recent times winning titles at Tokyo and Sofia, as well as being runner-up at Brisbane. He also had a challenging third round match against American Reilly Opelka winning in three sets that all went to tiebreaks.

It followed a rather run-of-the-mill, straight-set win over Adrian Mannarino in the second round after a first round bye.

The Russian has moved up the rankings into the top 15 and along with other members of the ‘Next Gen’ is a strong contender to be in the top 10 of the ATP rankings before the end of 2019.

Federer v Medvedev Predictions & Tips

Medvedev has been in very good form for the last year and has carried his form into 2019. Although tired after a long match against Opelka, Medvedev will not be an easy opponent here for Federer. A close battle on the cards, with Federer winning in three sets.

Tip: Federer to win in three sets: 3/1 (betway)
