Such has been Sherif’s form on clay she was always going to be very strong for Sofya Lansere and that’s exactly what happened in their second round encounter.

Sherif, who had won the Makarska Open title earlier this season and followed it up with a WTA 125 tournament win in Valencia, made it her 12th successive win here when she ousted Lansere 6-3, 6-3. The match lasted an hour and 21 minutes.

The one-sided nature of the contest began early when Sherif broke Lansere in the very first game and went on to complete the set win with a break in the ninth game.

The 353rd-ranked Lansere tried to fight back from being 0-2 down again, levelling things out at 2-2, but Sherif broke for the second time in the set in the sixth game. From there on, there was no looking back for the Egyptian player.

Earlier in the first round, Sherif had come back from a set down to scrape past Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Osorio Tames Andreeva

Erika Andreeva is only 19 and wasn’t expected to do much in her second round match against Osorio. She did surprise her Colombian opponent in the first set with the way she kept breaking her Osorio’s serve but the tide turned from the second onward.

In the end, Osorio needed two hours and 49 minutes to come through and clinch a 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-2 victory over her opponent.

A whopping six breaks of serves were shared between the two players in the first set but what was even more startling was the same number of breaks occurred in the decider too despite it lasting a mere eight games.

All of this points to Osorio’s serving issues as she prepares to face her 38th-ranked and in-form opponent here. She will hope to do a lot better with her serves in this last eight match.

Sherif v Osorio Prediction and Tip

Sherif holds the edge despite what the bookmakers say and we could see a three-set win for her.
