Dominic Thiem v Facundo Bagnis Head to Head
Thiem lost his only previous meeting with Bagnis that came in Salzburg in a Challenger event last year.

After having a grass swing to forget, Thiem returned to clay with a first round win at the Gstaad Open. He didn’t need a third set to overcome Alexandre Muller in that match but facing Hamad Medjedovic in the second round, the former US Open winner and French Open finalist fell to a three-set defeat.
And that’s been Thiem’s problem – the stitching together of wins after wins in the same tournament. He did that in Estoril where Thiem made the quarterfinal following successive wins and then again in Munich.
Other than that, Thiem hasn’t won more than a round at the highest level tournament.
In fact, having featured in four Challenger tournaments this season, in only one of them did Thiem enter the last four stage. In the other three, he won a grand total of two matches.

Bagnis Makes it Through the Qualifiers
For the second successive week, Bagnis opted to feature in an ATP event and was forced to come through the qualifiers. And for the second week in a row Bagnis has done that.
Last week, he went on to overcome Arthur Rinderknech in the first round at Gstaad before getting out in straight sets by Juan Pablo Varillas in the second.
Rather interestingly, that win against Rinderknech was Bagnis’ first in main draw since he made the second round at the Miami Masters. It was also his second for the season.
Here, he takes on a player who has been barely winning anything too but Thiem does hold a better record than Bagnis in 2023. And it’s not like his opponent doesn’t do too well on clay which leaves Bagnis with a rather difficult task of getting past a difficult opponent here.
