Christopher Eubanks v Aleksandar Vukic Head to Head

There have been six previous meetings between these two players and four of them have come at the Challenger level, one in the qualifiers of the Delray Beach Open and just one in the main draw of that very tournament that same year!

Vukic leads 4-2 including a win in their only ATP match earlier this year.

Eubanks Overcomes Nakashima

Coming into his second round match against Brandon Nakashima, Eubanks had been installed as the second-favourite which, to us, was a bit of a surprise. On the one hand, Eubanks had been making all the right results on court, showing improvement with every outing while on the other, Nakashima’s struggles in recent times were well-chronicled.

So for Eubanks to start 11/10 to win this looked like a good opportunity.

And that’s exactly how it turned out. While their match was well-fought it was Eubanks who edged ahead and carved out a three-set win over Nakashima to continue his good form going.

The world number 32 made it his 11th win from his previous 12 matches as he clinched a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5 win over the fellow American and made the quarterfinal.

With confidence from winning the title at Mallorca, reaching the quarterfinal at Wimbledon and being on the verge of a top-30 spot, Eubanks will start off as a heavy favourite here against a player ranked 82nd in the world.

Vukic in a Surprise Win

Vukic is himself at his career-best ranking of 82nd in the world and this could improve by leaps and bounds irrespective of the result of this quarterfinal.

He was a favourite going into his opener against Ethan Quinn – and won in straight sets – but playing Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round, Vukic had started off a 1/1 underdog. His opponent is an experienced pro and while form wasn’t on his side, the inexperience of his opponent should have made things easier for him.

That’s how it started with Nishioka breaking his opponent and grabbing the first set. The two traded breaks in the second and it looked like the set was headed into a tie-breaker when Vukic produced a break at 5-6 on his opponent’s serve to win the set off his first set-point.

The final set proved to be an even more evenly-fought one with neither player coming close to breaking the other. The ensuing tie-breaker, however, saw Vukic take an early lead and from that point onward, controlled it well to make it to his third career quarterfinal.

Can Vukic now seal his maiden semifinal berth?

Eubanks v Vukic Prediction and Tip

With the kind of form that Eubanks is in and facing up to a player who is 50 places behind him, it’s hard to bet against him. Might see a three-setter though.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Eubanks to win: 4/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
