Kanepi leads 1-0, with that sole encounter taking place almost 13 years ago in the 2010 US Open.

Cornet Beats Havlickova

33-year-old Frenchwoman Alize Cornet beat Lucie Havlickova 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in two and a half hours in the Prague Open first round. It was an exhausting affair where Cornet won 29 out of a possible 52 points behind the first serve while losing six break points.

Alize arrived in the Czech capital after a quarterfinal stint in Lausanne, where she beat Viktorija Golubic and Jil Teichmann. Most of her season has gone by in rather opposing results, which is why her record is now at 16-19.

Her best result came in Nottingham, where she was a semifinalist; it is worth mentioning that she dismissed Maria Sakkari early in the tournament.

Cornet started her season on a rut, losing five consecutive tour matches before finding some rhythm. Things have been far more perfect, but you have to give credit to her for keeping at it consistently.

Kanepi Moves Past Stefanini

Kaia Kanepi dispatched Lucia Stefanini 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 12 minutes. It was her 15th win of the season, which stacked up against 17 defeats.

At the age of 38, the Estonian is one of the oldest active players on the WTA Tour and, like Cornet, continues to impress.

While the hectic requirements of top-tier events are something that Kaia hasn’t been able to fulfil that great, she has had her moments in the season. Most recently, she won the ITF Amstelveen and was a quarterfinalist in ITF Ystad.

Like Alize, Kanpei, too, went through a winless spell early in the year before finding her groove. Her record is 15-17 and is ranked World No. 92 – compared to her adversary’s 65th spot.

Kanepi v Cornet Prediction and Tip

This should be an exciting match. Both players are fielding plenty of experience and wisdom; it will be interesting to see how they display the same on the court. The game can swing either way.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games to win: 5/6
