Frances Tiafoe brought the energy and dazzled with exuberance and athleticism, beating Russia’s Aslan Karatsev in two tiebreak sets.

In front of the watching Basketball legend Kevin Durant, Tiafoe played some breathtaking tennis at times, to withstand a valiant effort by Karatsev who came within a whisker of forcing the American into a decider.

Neither player broke the other’s serve during the two-hour 11-minute contest, and Karatsev will be the more disappointed of the two players. The Russian failed to take any of his three break points in the first set which Tiafoe prevailed in the breaker, hammering an ace on set point.

And Karatsev squandered his lone break point deep in the second set which was a set point as Tiafoe aimed for the lines before finishing with a great volley at the net to save it.

It wasn’t all lost on Karatsev though as he went on to build a 5-3 lead in the second-set tiebreak, but the night certainly belonged to Tiafoe who was unfazed under pressure and managed to claw his way into the action, winning four straight points.

Despite possessing one of the biggest and most powerful serves in the game, Shelton was broken five times during the one-hour 42-minute contest.

Even with momentum firmly on his side after winning that second set, Shang pressed the reset button and was out of the doldrums in the decider which was super tight for the most part until one dud game by Shelton ceded all the advantage he had.

After breaking for a 5-3 lead, Shang coolly served to 15 to book a meeting against second seed Tiafoe.
