Alex de Minaur v Tommy Paul Head to Head

The world number 19 de Minaur has won every single of the four times they have faced off in a competitive match including the final of the Acapulco Open earlier this year.

de Minaur Blasts Tirante Away

Following his quarterfinal exit at the Atlanta Open last week, de Minaur is here again at the same stage and hoping to do one better. It was Ugo Humbert who had stolen the march on him in Atlanta while this time around things could get even tougher as he takes on a player ranked higher than him.

De Minaur’s entry to the quarterfinal, however, should give him some confidence.

The Aussie laid Skander Mansouri low in the first round, winning 6-4, 6-4 and things went even better in the second when he was on court for a mere 64 minutes for the win.

Up against the 136th-ranked Thiago Tirante, de Minaur routed his opponent 6-2, 6-1 to make it to the last eight. He did not face a single break-point, winning all but six points off his owns serve while in turn he broke his opponent five times.

Against Paul, he will hope to continue doing what he has been doing all his career, helping him overcome his opponent every single time.

Paul Stretched by Alves

Having received a first round bye, Paul should not have had a lot of trouble when he took to court for his second round match against Felipe Alves. Unfortunately for him, that’s not how things went as he was forced to be on court for two hours and 15 minutes before coming through.

Such was the topsy-turvy nature of the contest that Paul missed three set-points in the first set, seven-points in the second while in the process also faced four set-points in the second set against Alves.

In the end, Paul huffed and puffed his way to a 7-5, 7-6 (7) win after having been down 3-6 in the second set tie-breaker.

He will now hope to overcome his poor record against de Minaur in a country in which he had made the final of a tournament this very year. That came in Acapulco in March but that title-decider loss also came at the hands of this very opponent!

de Minaur v Paul Prediction and Tip

De Minaur holds the mental edge over Paul although the American looks like he is getting closer to his opponent. Backing de Minaur to win this in three.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: De Minaur to win: 3/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
