Stefanos Tsitsipas v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two and Jarry, rather interestingly, leads 2-1. Making this even more bizarre is the fact that Jarry’s only loss came on clay – his most favourite surface – while he has defeated Tsitsipas twice on grass.

That includes a victory in Halle earlier this June.

Tsitsipas Crushes Isner

John Isner might have fallen away with his form and in turn his rankings but he still was expected to give Tsitsipas a bit of a fight with his serving prowess.

That’s not how it turned out though with Tsitsipas coming through in straight sets and two easy sets at that.

Typically known to take opponents to tie-breakers in his matches because of his booming serve, Isner was broken three times in the encounter. And with his returning game not the best, Tsitsipas managed to stave off the only break-point he faced in the last game of the encounter to come through 6-2, 6-4.

Tsitsipas was on court for an hour and 18 minutes following his first round bye.

He will hope to continue with something similar by way of form after a highly forgettable grass swing by his own lofty standards.

Jarry Stretched by Brouwer

Jarry was forced to drill deep into his reserves but showed remarkable calm in coming through in three sets against Gijs Brouwer in the second round.

Following a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez in the opener, Jarry had started off a 3/10 favourite in the Brouwer encounter but failed to find his footing early.

Only two break-points were on offer in the first set and both went against Jarry. He saved them both but then was forced to edge out his opponent in the following tie-breaker with Brouwer saving two set-points in the process.

The second set was no different with Jarry again unable to find a way past Brouwer’s serve. This time around, however, it was Brouwer who broke Jarry at 4-5 to level the proceedings.

Jarry saved an early break-point before going 4-2 up, then saved another break-point in the eighth game. In the 10th, he served it out to scrape through to the quarterfinals. He now faces a familiar opponent but for the first time in a hardcourt competition.

Tsitsipas v Jarry Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas should be the favourite here but their previous record does make Jarry a tempting option. A fighting match could be in the offing here.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
