Djere Knocks Out Cachin

Fifth seed Laslo Djere knocked out third seed Pedro Cachin in the quarterfinal on Thursday.

The world no. 38 Djere was not broken in the match by the Argentine as he saved both the break points that he faced. In contrast, he had six breaking chances in the match and he capitalised on half of those chances.

Djere won 79% points on his first serve to beat the world no. 54, 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 20 minutes.

Djere had also won the first two rounds in straight sets. The 28-year-old defeated Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the opening round and knocked out Thiago Seyboth Wild 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in the second round.

With the three wins, the Serbian is now 26-18 at the tour level in 2023, and that includes a 16-10 record on clay.

Djere is now a win away from a sixth career final and a second of 2023. The two-time tour level champion lost his only final of the season to Alexander Zverev in Hamburg last week. Can he reach a second final in two weeks?

Thiem Rallies Past Rinderknech

2019 champion Dominic Thiem took a step closer to a third final in Kitzbuhel as he rallied from a set down to beat Arthur Rinderknech in the quarterfinal on Thursday.

The world no. 116 conceded the only break of the first set, but got the solitary breaks in the next two sets to score a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

It was a second straight comeback win for the former world no. 3. Thiem had beaten China’s Zhang Zhizhen 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. He may have won the opening round match in straight sets but it wasn’t a straight forward one either as he needed two tiebreaks to fend off Facundo Bagnis.

Thanks to the three wins, Thiem improved his season record to 12-17 on the tour and 18-23 across levels. This is his first tour level semifinal of the season and the 17-time ATP champion will be hoping to reach a 29th final of his career on Friday. If he does reach the final, it will end a three-year finals drought for the Austrian, who last played in the ATP Finals final in 2020.

Djere v Thiem Prediction and Tip

Djere has been in exceptional form over the last two weeks and he is most likely to advance from this contest. Thiem has fought hard throughout the tournament and will make things difficult for the Serb, but eventually Djere should edge through.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Djere to win: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
